08:22 am - box-o-vision.
bluh.

between work and the music project, i'm beat.

the music thing's going well. i think we're going to stick with the band name, "man at home." i like it. it's jeff, scott, and i now; jeff on guitar/keys/vox, scott on drums, and me on bass/keys/vox. we may go record something this weekend, and if we do, i'll see if i can put it up here.

work is... well, still work.
i heard back about that drug test finally. i passed. i didn't expect any other outcome.

i don't know what else to say and now i'm going to be later than i want, which means parking will be $12 instead of $5.

ho-hum.

07:08 pm - this thing better not suck; i'm gonna be pissed if i get another failberry.
on the positive side, i brought an iphone back from the dead. it was my brother's, he dropped it from his pocket and he cracked the screen. i bought a new screen and in the act of replacing it cracked the lcd. the instructions aren't specific enough; what you have to do is not put pressure on the lcd itself to remove it, but the casing around it, because an lcd screen is very, VERY fragile. the slightest pressure when removing it to get to the screen/touch panel will break it. remember that when repairing an iphone! so i bought a new lcd as well; it arrived today, and it is now in the iphone.
i am also now using it as a phone.

now, here is a problem: are there any pictures of it cracked? did i forget to shoot that?.... crap...
i can take a picture of the old lcd, but that doesn't show anything really. sorry, guys, i failed.

either way, it feels awesome. i ended up with a $110 iphone. not too shabby.

05:15 pm - minor update for april 30.
i guess i should update.

so my résumé is done. it doesn't look as good as i wanted it to look but i'm ok with that. i've submitted it around to a few places, but i haven't gotten any responses yet.

i also finished printing my portfolio but i haven't done layout for it yet. i've been trying to come up with a better idea than i have, but so far it's going to be my 8" (largest side) prints in an 8"x 8" black album with black 8"x 8" pages behind the prints. of course if i wanted to go all serious, i could mount them and get some other kind of album system going but right now, i just want a way to show off my work so someone will hire me.

i'm also out of money. of course, NOT having a job and being out of money is a bit of a problem. i'm trying to rectify this problem by getting a job.

i dunno. i thought i had more to say but right now it's not coming out. more details... later. as usual.

07:56 am - "all that lives has meat."
my friend, jeff aymond, is a genius.

“All the Flies”

All that lives has meat
I knew this once when the flies all swam to me

There was gloom that grew in the trees
It became the flies and slowly surrounded me

(Through the blue haze)

They laid my bones on the ground
And soon the parasites made a city in my town

It became hard to sleep or see
In the walls they readily built to bury me

But the flies have been friends to me
They were angels sent to leech a devil in me

Brushing wings on my face
Surrounding forms of no name
I’ve heard the buzzing cadence
I’m so happy you came down and raced around
All the flies!

Isabella - "All the Flies"

05:00 am - showing off.
have a few minutes free?

want to hear the new music project on which brian and i are working?

DL this file. this one here. yes, this one.

then let me know what you think.

it's a cover of The Magnetic Fields' "Abigail" done live (simultaneous, no cuts) in a couple takes. we did not expect to show this to anyone, but rather recorded it to see where we needed work. because of these limits, there are bound to be mistakes, i.e. FLAT NOTES SUNG. please excuse them. i like them even less than you.
brian on guitar, me on vocals.

03:37 am - this is kinda big...
OH WAIT i forgot to mention this.

i am no longer smoking marlboro reds.

!!!!!!

it's been a mixture of camel filter wides and american spirit full flavor (black pack) lately. i got on this kick of "fully tasting my cigarettes" for a while and noticed that reds, although they have an attractive taste (weird, huh? nobody ever said that), are not right for me.

yep. craziness.

i'm not 100% on board with the camels yet, they're just the other that was around. we'll see.
oh, and the american spirits are too expensive to smoke as much as i do.

that's all. g'night.

finally got a haircut today. first time since last year, around this time. and yay! it doesn't look bad. i'll have to show you guys soon, somehow. i dunno. maybe i'll do a self-set or something.

i'm also having financial troubles... that savings definitely didn't last as long as it should have. i mean i'm not completely broke yet, but i very well may be at $0 after my court date for that goddamn ticket.
man. i need a damn job. i can't wait till i'm completely legal again. i should probably work on (see: create) my resumé... it's just so hard to think up positive traits about myself when i'm in a place like this.

02:26 pm - go see them. seriously.
The Magnetic Fields were easily one of the best musical acts i have ever seen. maybe even top #1.

i suggest to EVERYONE to see if they're playing a date around you and if so, go see them. of course, you may get shitty tickets, but if you go through the venue you'll get the best available, rather than what ticketmaster or whomever can give you.

Oct 23 Thu Jersey City, NJ Loews Jersey Theatre
$35.00 reserved (plus $2.50 fee) on sale July 18.
Oct 24 Fri Columbus, OH The Southern Theatre
$27.50 reserved (plus $2.50 facility fee) on sale July 21.
Oct 25 Sat Philadelphia, PA The Merriam Theater
$30.50, $34.50 reserved (plus $1.50 fee)
Oct 26 Sun Washington, DC Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University
$35.00 reserved ($30.00 GW Students) on sale July 18.

seriously. go see them. no electronic instruments, mostly in theaters or halls, 5 people, interesting act. if you want to hear what they sound like first, either let me know or download/buy/acquire "69 Love Songs vol. 2" which will be a fair enough representation of them. hell, if you have the time, i'd suggest all three volumes, but if you'll only get one, get that one.

honestly, i wish i could follow them on this tour. i'd be a roadie for gas/food/lodging cost only. in fact, i'd LOVE to do so.

it's going to be brian, cody, kevin, tommy, and i.
we're going to see the magnetic fields.

now, before i EXPLODE WITH EXCITEMENT! i'm going to say that i'm sick. feels extremely similar to last year's trip to seattle's sickness. so, yay! traveling with friends while nursing an infection. awesome.

but yeah. we're leaving today, going to the hotel, show tomorrow night, beer festival saturday, and returning sunday. we're going to take my grandma's old car, the same one i took to indiana. this time i'll take two keys.

so yeah. just wanted to drop in and tell you guys that. i'm supposed to be packing right now but i'm still working on laundry. i guess i could go pack. or shower. or whatever.

06:19 pm
the universe is crumbling around me today.

(3 broken bones & failed attempts | put together the ball and socket)

09:15 am - meanwhile, rick james takes her nude and there's nothing i can do.
alright! i'm back from indiana. have been for around a week now. life has gone back to entropy, and even worse so now; sleeping patterns are worse off. no big deal, i just need to get back into the swing of being down here and then pick myself the fuck up.

there IS one good about me being up at these ungodly hours: mcdonald's breakfast!

being back is crazy. ashton isn't as bad off as i thought he would be, but in other cases he's worse. what's with his fever to spend money? i don't understand it. he bought (see: "put together" would mean he did work for it) a new hot-shit computer AS WELL AS A GODDAMN IPHONE. in the past week! i mean seriously, wtf?

anyway. i've been thinking about my perspective, and what i'm seeing here; it's not good. i'm talking about not only this mindset i've been in for a month, but also this hump i've put myself back into since i lost my job. i really don't take care of myself well at all, not without some sort of supervision. i haven't for a while; hell, i've been without fucking supervision.

but. what am i supposed to do about this? how am i to change this, other than stepping up and smashing down this stone figure of "jason" that i've built for oh so many years? i mean sure, if i did one of those steps that i always wanted but never do, it'd definitely put more swing in my step and feel much less like a rut, but would that even be enough to permanently kill this idea and have me standing triumphantly on top of its remains?

one thing i can say: i'm certain i'm not ready to give up old lifestyles and habits. however much i want to push these nasty little purple tumors away, i'm not getting rid of them yet. they are parasites, and i think we have a mutual agreement.
i'm always getting eaten by something.

i guess i should probably stop here. if i keep going i'll probably end up saying something stupid and just screw up the whole page.

oh. and. Cake = awesome. as much of an asshole jim mccrea is or isn't, he's got some goddamn good lyrics and music.

03:47 am - i'm a sonofabitch. motherfucker.
so we got a good crowd response on the movie. no update on who got crowd favorite but i doubt it's us. i mean we did get some of the best applause? definitely the first one where people seemed that they actually wanted to clap... that doesn't mean too much, though. either way, can't wait to finish the damn thing. i mean yes, i do want more film stuff, but i'm sick of telling people about it and not being able to show it off.

i'm extremely indifferent right now. was around some shitty people earlier. i can't seem to focus on anything good tonight. i think i need something to happen; something that will wake me up. i guess i've just gone back to hibernation now.

whatever. i guess this is me throwing in the towel for the night.

OH AND. P.S. - $89 at the pump earlier. fuck driving anywhere this summer. sorry to margaret and lew, i know i said i wanted to visit but at a price like that there's no fucking way. we'll figure it out at some other time.

11:11 am - "team sleepless"
so. brian, tommy, annie (tommy's girlfriend, i met her back in the day through lew), and i all participated in the 48 hour film project. the deal is each group gets literally 48 hours to write, film, edit, and finish a 5-7 minute movie. by assignment each group must work on a prescribed genre as well as a required prop and line of dialogue that is given on friday night. the movie must be turned in no later than 7:30pm on sunday night.

we had a rather large team. this actually worked against us because people were screwing off too much during filming. we used a bar as one of our locations so of course everyone wanted to drink and socialize rather than get out of there asap. brian was director of photography, annie did wardrobe/makeup, and tommy and i were doing stills as well as anything else that needed to be done but wasn't being worked on.
it was fun! as a motherfucker. i mean it was very frustrating to have so many people in the wrong mindset; on friday night we stayed up till 5:30am doing the creative process and we didn't even have a full script in the end.

our team was mostly a bunch of loyola grads that brian and alex (our director and executive producer) knew with some others thrown in. we had actual actors, good sound equipment, full lighting gear, and a decently professional camera.

our genre was "film de femme". if we could have had 2 or 3 more hours (or waste less time on saturday) we'd have a beautiful film; instead we had to turn in a somewhat unfinished project. i mean it was all filmed and it was all put in but the editing was rough and we had to use unprocessed sound. we're going to make a "director's cut" which will probably be around 12 minutes long or so on our own time, just to see this film as it should be, rather than how it had to be. all around it was our fault; nobody knew exactly what to do, even with the people who were experienced on sets.

as i said, i had a blast. met some good people, learned more about making films, had fun, did a good job. once we get the good cut finished we'll probably upload it to youtube, and once we do you all will hear about it. hell, we may even put together a dvd complete with "original 48hfp cut" and deleted scenes; more info on that after brian and i get more sleep.

end result? i think i want to work more in film. even if i'm just a production stills photographer.

04:33 pm - i need to do some backup vocals.
i feel like the things i'm saying nowadays are sub-par at best. even though i realize that many people don't have much to say and yet say things anyway i still feel as though what i'm saying is equal to piss in the wind. at one point in my life i felt that i had ideas which were worth spreading and worth knowing but whenever i talk or type or whatever i can't help the itch that what i'm saying is not helping anyone any-which-way. of course this may be seated in some form of self-loathing but it also may have some truth behind it. this frightens me. should i even be speaking if what i'm saying is only worth its weight in urine? probably not.

"speak slowly, i can't hear you; my mind keeps spinning closer and closer to the rain on the roof, and the rain in my head, and the things that you said, people take it further ahead... and it just gets so foggy, it's nowhere in here and it's everywhere else that i don't want to be but i'm stuck here getting misty over you... i'm alone on a bicycle built for two."
